A Little About This Song…

The Alphabet Song shares its melody with “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and “Baa Baa Black Sheep”. Sometimes called “The ABCs” or “My ABCs”, this little tune is America’s favorite song to teach the alphabet. It is said that Mozart originally composed the melody in the 1780s to accompany the classic French nursery rhyme “Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman (Ah! Would I Tell You, Mother?”). American music publisher Charles Bradlee put the English lyrics to it in 1835 and gave credit for the melody to Louis Le Maire, an 18th century French composer.
