A Little About This Song…

Wildwood Flower is a classic American ballad, best known through performance and recording by The Carter Family; however, the song predates them. Its original title was “I’ll Twine ‘Mid The Ringlets” taken from a poem written by Maud Irving set to music by J. P. Webster in 1860. Webster also wrote “In The Sweet By and By” and other popular tunes of the day. It is thought that “Maud Irving” was a pen name used by J. William Van Namee, a poet, spiritualist and medium, and author of Driftwood on the Sea of Life (1860), Poems (1868), and more.
