A Little About This Song…

Mary Had A Little Lamb started out as a poem based on an actual event at the Redstone School in Sterling, Massachusetts, when Mary Sawyer brought her pet lamb to school. The nursery rhyme, penned by Mary’s teacher, Sara Josepha Hale, was set to music in 1830.  In December, 1877, Thomas Edison recited it into the first tinfoil cylinder phonograph recording. A statue dedicated to Mary’s Little Lamb now stands in the Sterling town center.
