A Little About This Song…

Though often assumed a traditional American hymn, the lyrics to What a Friend We Have in Jesus were written as a poem by Canadian-Irish teacher Joseph M. Scriven in 1855 to comfort his dying mother in Ireland. The melody was added by Charles Crozat Converse in 1868. It’s known internationally, with different lyrics in multiple languages.
