A Little About This Song…

A good-humored look at the bottle, this funny little ditty was written by Joseph Winner who published the song in a broadside in 1869 under his middle name, Eastburn. It was often heard on minstrel and vaudeville stages, but possibly gained its greatest popularity during Prohibition. Afraid that the lyrics were too controversial, Glenn Miller and other big bands played Little Brown Jug as an instrumental. Today, it’s a fun singalong song for both adult and kids.
