A Little About This Song…
The House Carpenter is an old, old tale based on “The Daemon Lover” with three different outcomes. In one version the ship springs a leak and sinks and everybody drowns. In another, she discovers that her lover is actually the Devil himself and has come to deliver her to Hell. In the third – which we demonstrate here – she is overcome with guilt and grief over leaving her children and kills herself. Sad endings all.
