A Little About This Song…

Shall We Gather at the River was originally titled “Hanson Place,” a reference to the original Hanson Place Baptist Church in Brooklyn where American poet and gospel music composer Robert Lowry (1826–1899) sometimes served. It is often associated with pioneers and cowboys, thanks to movie makers who used it in spaghetti Westerns and films about late 19th century America.

A Related Bible Verse…

Mark 1:5

And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
