O Mary Don’t You Weep is also called “O Mary Don’t You Weep, Don’t You Mourn”. It’s a Negro Spiritual known to be sung by slaves in the field prior to the Civil War. The lyrics speak of faith despite struggle and a firm belief in the power of God. This moving song was performed and recorded often during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.
