A Little About This Song…

Home On The Range, one of America’s most iconic folk songs, was first written by Dr. Brewster M Higley in Smith County, Kansas in the early 1870s. “Oh, Give Me A Home Where The Buffalo Roam” first appeared in the Christmas 1873 issue of the Smith County Pioneer. Daniel E. Kelley, a friend of Higley’s, put it to music and the song began to spread throughout the West. Kansas named it their state song in 1947.
