A Little About This Song…

The source of Gospel Ship, also known as “Old Gospel Ship” and “Sailing Through The Air”, is unknown. Ownership has been attributed to A.P. Carter (who recorded the song with The Carter Family in 1936) and to Alphus LeFevre of the LeFevre Trio, but research suggests that they were both familiar with the song from childhood. Herbert Buffum is also credited with the tune in some instances, but the song does not appear in his biographical information. The Southern Gospel favorite was featured in many hymnals through the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s.

A Related Bible Verse…

1 Thessalonians 4:17

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
