A Little About This Song…

The origins of This Old Man are a mystery. It’s earliest form is found in Anne Gilchrist’s Journal of the English Folk Dance and Song Society published in 1937, the author having learned it from her Welsh nurse in the 1870s under the title “Jack Jintle.” Little kids love this one. If they’ve been to kindergarten, they’ll know some hand motions to go with the song.
