A Little About This Song…
The Star Spangled Banner was named America’s national anthem in 1931. Its original form was a poem entitled “The Defense of Fort McHenry” written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 after he witnessed a Maryland fort being bombarded by the British during the War of 1812. The melody came from music composed by John Stafford Smith. We should all know this one by heart.
