A Little About This Song…
Down In My Heart is also called “I’ve Got The Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy” or simply “Joy, Joy, Joy”. It’s a long-time favorite of pre-school age kids and young adolescents. Easy to remember and easy to play.
Frequently heard around a campfire and at scouting events, this old song was written by a Unitarian minister and writer, George Willis Cook (1848-1923). It appears to have been written around 1890, but no one is sure. It began appearing in hymnals in the early 1930s.
