The Church In The Vale is also known as “Little Brown Church In The Vale” and “Little Brown Church”; it was written by William Pitts in 1865. The song was introduced through the world­wide evan­gel­ism cam­paign of Ar­thur Chap­man and Charles Al­ex­an­der in 1893. It was first recorded by the Wea­ther­wax Quar­tet around 1910 and caught on quickly, but received its largest audience when The Carter Family recorded it in 1932.
